Our “Rekindle the Back to School Feeling Contest” Winner is Going to the Circus

Michael, our “Rekindle the Back-to-School Feeling Contest” winner, posted that he wanted to “…take his family to the Ringling Brothers Circus”. Michael will be doing just that, with our compliments!

We were especially pleased to give Michael the $100 because we often use the circus as a fun metaphor for interesting and fulfilling careers. The picture of simultaneous acts under one big-top tent beautifully illustrates how multiple interesting revenue-generating activities can lead to an exciting, balanced, and fulfilling career. Three rings full of acts in a circus offer the audience choices; with options, there will be (hopefully) at least one act each audience member finds interesting. Under one big-top tent, there are many options, many sources of stimulation.

Great careers often operate on the same principle.
When you are engaged in multiple interesting revenue-generating activities, you have multiple sources of stimulation. Those with the best careers often engage in activities across a variety of roles – for multiple sources of interest and income. Much like the circus Michael and his family will enjoy, each career activity is independent and potentially interesting.

Congratulations Michael on winning the $100!

The circus has always been a source of creativity and wonder for me, and now I look forward to being able to share it with my family too. It was especially nice learning I won because just this week I learned I will likely be starting a new career in mid-October after being unemployed much of this 2009, which really made your recent blogs strike home for me! Let the adventures begin...

And, of course, a very big Thank You for the contest :)
