Singles Over 40 Survey 2026

What are single adults in midlife actually willing to change for a serious relationship, and what do they now consider real commitment?

In September 2026, 416 single adults ages 40–75 completed a survey examining willingness to change routines, hobbies, living arrangements, finances, caregiving, and other parts of an established life for a lasting romantic relationship. The study also explored which behaviors and arrangements respondents consider essential for a relationship to feel fully committed.

The findings reveal a clear tension between openness to love and the desire to preserve independence, identity, and the life already built.
